Fringe 2009
Loving Burns is coming to the Edinburgh Fringe 2009 yet again.Henderson’s the culinary institution on Hanover Street that has been delighting visitors and festival goers over the years with it’s fresh and healthy fare , has decided in this year of Homecoming to celebrate with ‘Breakfast With Burns’.
And the play Loving Burns has been invited to be there.
Following the success of last year’s run at the Roxburghe Hotel, it was an invitation that proved irresistible.
This time though it’s a one-woman show.
Alicia Devine, who wrote Loving Burns (adapted from the sell-out play ‘Burns Night’ from the 2003 Fringe) will this year be going solo.
‘When I first started on this journey, ‘ says Devine, ‘ All I wanted was to write a one-woman piece. However in the process of the writing I was given some sound advice by a seasoned playwright; JUST WRITE THE PLAY YOU WANT TO WRITE!This proved a liberation for me. Initially as ‘Burns Night’, the play had three players, then as time went on I adapted it as a two-hander and it became Loving Burns. Now, adapting it as a one-woman play for 2009 it comes full circle; I’m really very excited.’
Here’s what the press said about Loving Burns last year:
‘Original and different…Devine sings the songs beautifully’ - Keith Bruce, THE HERALD
‘ Breathtaking…gave me goosebumps all over’ - THREE WEEKS
